My Philosophy of Education

It is my belief that our future rests in the present education of our youth. It is the responsibility of teachers to provide a safe environment in which students are able to acquire information. This environment is provided by an awareness of the dynamics within the student body and effective classroom management. People learn in a variety of ways, and this must be considered when presenting information to students. Information must be imparted to students in a variety of ways to increase the attainability of the information. Teachers should constantly be studying in their discipline, and striving for alternative methods of teaching. Teachers must accept students for who they are, not necessarily their actions. This acceptance is the foundation of my philosophy in education. This philosophy rests firmly on respect in the classroom. This respect is three-fold, 1) respect for yourself and your classmates, 2) respect for your classroom, 3) and respect for your instructor.

Teachers should be the moral role models for the children under their tutelage. Attitude and actions of a teacher are as important in this role as verbal directives. Teachers should not rule by intimidation and thus be dictators of the classroom. They should teach by example how to be good citizens. We should inspire our students not to take information at face value. Students should be taught to question the validity and integrity of the information they encounter. Knowledge acquired in the classroom should enable students to make logical decisions as well as think outside the box. Helping students believe in themselves and become productive citizens is a key role in the job of an educator.

The educational system should not be limited to the school campus. Family involvement must be a focal point. Family support is crucial to the success of the student. This educational system secures our future by developing the minds of tomorrow. Educators teach students how to achieve more than they believed possible.
